The Maguire Foundation, in Partnership with CSFP and Independence Mission Schools, Addressed the Youngest Maguire Scholars about Unique Scholarship Program

Dec 10, 2013

On December 9, representatives from CSFP and IMS joined Mr. James and Mrs. Frances Maguire, founders of the Maguire Foundation, to address the youngest group of Maguire Scholars and their families. The evening focused on the Maguire Scholars Program and the wide-ranging educational opportunities the Maguire Foundation provides. Current CSFP scholarship recipients in attendance, all of whom attend IMS schools with the support of scholarships provided by the Maguire Foundation, learned about the continuum of educational support that the Maguire Foundation has built through this innovative program.

The Maguire Scholars Program begins at the 5th – 8th grade level and is providing more than $2.5 million in scholarship funds to CSFP.  These funds are earmarked for children from low-income Philadelphia families who attend one of the fourteen Independence Mission Schools. Currently, 450 children in 5th -8th grades are in the Maguire Scholars Program. After 8th grade, these Maguire Scholars may qualify for continued support at one of several partner high schools with which the Maguire Foundation has formed innovative partnerships.

Over 240 current Maguire Scholars and their families attended the event held at the University of Pennsylvania’s Houston Hall, which also provided CSFP parents the opportunity to speak directly to Maguire Foundation representatives about the impact this tuition support has had on their children. Parents were thrilled at the possibility of securing more  tuition support for their children for high school and college, and were grateful to the Maguire Foundation for its dedication to meeting the educational needs of so many in Philadelphia.
