CSFP Hosts Annual Application Kick Off

Nov 18, 2013

With hundreds of parents, students, school representatives, CSFP supporters and help from the Phillie Phanatic and Wally, the Wawa Goose,  Children’s Scholarship Fund Philadelphia (CSFP) opened its new scholarship application season. The event was held at Citizens Bank Park Stadium on Friday, November 15th.  As part of CSFP’s Campaign for 10,000 Children, we will be awarding 2,000 new, four-year scholarships for K-8th grade students from low-income Philadelphia families this coming June. This marks the third consecutive year that CSFP has issued 2,000 new awards.

These scholarships provide critical financial access for thousands more children from low-income families to quality, safe tuition-based K-8th grade schools. Many parents were on hand at this event to be among the first to complete this year’s scholarship application. A new applicant told us: “My grandchildren need a school committed to their education and able to provide a safe environment with necessary resources. Every child deserves an excellent education.”

Chris Gheysens, President and Chief Executive Officer of Wawa addressed the crowd gathered at Citizens Bank Park. He stressed the importance of early education for Philadelphia children and how it is one of Wawa’s core values as a company. Mr. Gheysens noted that the hopeful scholarship applicants in attendance were the leaders of the future, who should be educated “right here in Philly,” and will make positive contributions to our city.  Wawa has been a close partner of CSFP and has invested more than $1.2 million in scholarship support over the last twelve years.  The impact of Wawa’s gifts and leadership on the lives of thousands of children has been tremendous.
