Student Award Ceremony Brings CSFP Community Together

Jun 21, 2018

Over 1,500 families, students, organizational friends, and supporters joined CSFP on Tuesday, June 19, to celebrate our annual Student Award Ceremony. At the event, CSFP welcomed new K-8th grade students to our needs-based scholarship program, and recognized the achievements of current and former scholarship students and several community members.

CSFP recognized Mr. Thomas P. Nerney as our Citizen of the Year for his unwavering commitment to quality education and creating opportunities for students with limited financial means. We also honored the Main Line Chamber of Commerce as our Corporate Citizen of the Year for their dedication to our mission. Their President and CEO, Mr, Bernard Dagenais, accepted the award on the Chamber’s behalf.

To kick off the student and families awards portion of the program, Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney joined the celebration to read the names of CSFP’s high school alumni award winners and congratulate all ten of them on their acceptance into college. Temple University matriculate, Sahir Muhammad, addressed the crowd, giving some heartfelt advice to new CSFP scholarship winners. “To all the young students here today, who are receiving their first CSFP scholarships, I have some advice for you. Be yourself … only you can do what YOU need to do to succeed,” Sahir said.

We are delighted to be able to award 2,000 new K-8th grade scholarships to Philadelphia families striving to afford quality K-8th grade schools for their children. We especially thank our event sponsors: BDP, Stradley Ronon, The Kimmel Center, The Philadelphia Phillies, A. C. Moore Arts & Crafts, and Independence Blue Cross, and our volunteers from: BDP, PHLY, Fidato, SEI, and SAP, for making this event a success. In addition, we would like to acknowledge the tremendous support shown by CSFP’s community of Board members, donors, families, schools, volunteers, and friends. Thank you!
