CSFP Families Visit the Academy of Natural Sciences

Feb 29, 2016

On February 27 and 28, hundreds of families joined CSFP at the Academy of the Natural Sciences of Drexel University to partake in CSFP’s 11th annual Weekend at the Academy. CSFP families gained access to the museum and special exhibits for a significantly-reduced admission rate, and took part in activities throughout the day. This successful event informed CSFP’s decision to provide more outside-the-classroom learning opportunities to children in our program. We are continuing to expand such supplemental programs.

Of particular note at this past weekend’s event were the hands-on exhibit Outside In, where children are free to roam the gallery and learn about nature, as well as the special exhibition Tarantulas: Live and Up Close, which sparked an interest in entomology for several CSFP students. “It was really cool. I got to see live bugs!” said one young scholarship recipient to CSFP and volunteers, who worked the event. “We really appreciate the opportunity to visit for such a low cost. Next time, I’ll leave the spiders to him,” added his mother.

CSFP would like to thank First Niagara for sponsoring the event, as well as the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University for their longstanding partnership. In addition, CSFP is thankful for the help of volunteers in running the event. Please visit our Facebook for photos.
