2,000 Children Receive New, K-8th Grade Scholarships to Quality Schools

Jun 18, 2015

On June 18, 2015, CSFP welcomed 2,000 new CSFP scholarship winners to our K-8th grade scholarship program. Award letters were distributed and these lucky families now have the financial means to provide a safe, quality K-8th grade private school education for their children. These new CSFP students will join 4,200 other children currently receiving CSFP support this September, making for our largest scholarship class ever.

CSFP alumnus Raushaun cut to the heart of CSFP’s mission when he addressed the crowd and shared his story of growing up in West Philadelphia and the problems he encountered academically and socially when he transferred from one public elementary school to another for many years. In middle school, his mother was able to secure a CSFP scholarship and his successful pathway finally began. Raushaun went on to Roman Catholic High School on a full academic scholarship and recently graduated at the top of his class. He will attend Drexel University this fall on a full scholarship and plans to become a neurosurgeon.

The parents of many new CSFP scholarship winners connected with Raushaun’s story and found hope for their children’s futures in new, quality, K-8th grade schools, made possible by CSFP support. Said one new parent “We are so excited for her new school, thank you for this chance!”

In addition to honoring Raushaun and nine other college-bound CSFP alumni, CSFP recognized some current program participants, two outstanding teachers at CSFP-approved schools, and two CSFP parents for their efforts. CSFP was also delighted to honor Drexel University as our Citizen of the Year, accepted by President John A. Fry, and Susquehanna International Group (SIG) as our Corporate Citizen of the Year, accepted by Managing Director Jeff Yass, for their incredible work in preparing Philadelphia children to become the next generation of well-educated citizens.

CSFP thanks all of its donors for helping to bring hope, opportunity, and success to another 2,000 Philadelphia children. CSFP wants to recognize our generous event sponsors: the American Federation for Children, the Kimmel Center, and M&M Displays, as well as volunteers from: Radian Guaranty, Aberdeen Asset Management, TMNA Services, LLC. (TMNAS)/ Philadelphia Insurance Companies, SEI, and our organizational friends and CSFP-approved schools, for helping to make this event a success.
