Brian K. Thomas is a strategic nonprofit executive dedicated to building the resilient systems and inclusive cultures that allow mission-driven organizations to thrive. As Vice President of Finance & Operations at Children’s Scholarship Fund Philadelphia (CSFP), Brian oversees the fiscal and administrative infrastructure that supports the mission to provide students from under-resourced families with financial access to quality K-8 education. In this leadership role, he stewards the organization’s resources with a focus on transparency, sustainability, and the belief that early educational investment is the key to long-term community success.
Brian joined CSFP following a transformative tenure as Director of People & Operations at PA Humanities, where he was instrumental in modernizing internal functions and championing a culture of empowerment that prioritized organizational health alongside financial excellence. By integrating hands-on fiscal oversight with a deep commitment to staff development, he helped transform complex operational challenges into scalable opportunities for stability and growth.
His expertise is rooted in a diverse professional background that spans both the nonprofit and corporate sectors. Prior to his work in the humanities, Brian served as the COO of a multi-state telecommunications retailer, Nu-Wave Wireless. During his time there, he architected the operational processes required to scale a single storefront into a 30-store operation across six states, successfully combining business intelligence with the development of high-performing workforce cultures.
A lifelong Philadelphian and resident of Fishtown, Brian’s professional work is an extension of his deep civic commitment. He is an elected Judge of Election and a neighborhood block captain, and his community-level leadership was recognized with a nomination for a Mayor’s Day of Service Recognition Award. He believes that strong organizations, much like strong neighborhoods, are built on a foundation of trust, clear systems, and a people-first perspective.
Brian holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Temple University. His technical expertise is backed by professional certificates in Human Resource Management and Business Intelligence from Villanova University, as well as Not-for-Profit Accounting certificates from the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants.
