Philly K-8 School Fair Focuses on Access to Different Schools

Oct 31, 2018

This past Saturday, CSFP and our partners at GreatPhillySchools (GPS) teamed up to host the Philly K-8 School Fair. We brought together 1,300 children and family members, 93 diverse schools, and community partners for a day of sharing information at Girard College.

We developed the Philly K-8 School Fair back in 2016 to increase Philadelphia families’ knowledge of their K-8th grade school options in the city and surrounding area. The Greater Philadelphia region hosts hundreds of public, private, and charter schools serving grades K-8, and gaining an understanding of the different applications processes and requirements for these diverse schools can be difficult for families. This free, open-to-the-public event focused on bringing together the people necessary—school administrators, resource partners, and families—to help more children access safe, quality education.

Attendees of the Philly K-8 School Fair noted the convenience of Girard College’s central location and the diverse range of schools represented. “This is a great event,” remarked Kenyon, father to 4-year-old daughter Yari. “I really like the layout, how the schools are organized by their section of the city.” Sheree, mother to kindergartener Shawn, exclaimed, “There’s just so much information!”

CSFP would like to thank GPS for helping to put together this unique, community-centered event, and Girard College for hosting the event. We also would like to thank our event sponsors: NRG Energy, the Hilda & Preston Davis Foundation, the Anna Maria Moggio Foundation, Shoe Carnival, and MOM’s Organic Market: Center City, for helping to make the Philly K-8 School Fair possible.
