CSFP Reads – Family Book Club Initiative – Holds First Meeting

Jan 30, 2017

Children’s Scholarship Fund Philadelphia knows that a love for reading begins at home and depends on parent encouragement and involvement. We created CSFP Reads, a family book club geared toward 3rd-5th grade students and their families, to foster a sense of joy and excitement around reading. On January 28, 2017, nearly thirty book club participants gathered to discuss our first CSFP Reads book: Matilda, by Roald Dahl. Participating families arrived at the meeting prepared to discuss the book, meet other CSFP children and families, and help staff select the next book our club will read. Participants shared their favorite scenes and characters with the group and discussed the message of the Roald Dahl classic.

CSFP is delighted to see such a great interest from children and families for these types of extra curricular activities. We will continue to offer initiatives like these to provide out-of-the-classroom learning opportunities for our scholarship students. Interested in participating in CSFP Reads as a family member or volunteer? Check out our CSFP Reads site, where we will list upcoming book selections. CSFP posts upcoming events for CSFP families regularly on our Facebook and Events page, so follow us for the most current information.
