CSFP Lottery Day Celebration Brings Over 100 to Navy Yard

Mar 13, 2015

On March 12, CSFP hosted over 100 volunteers, supporters, and friends at Franklin Square Capital Partners’ brand new headquarters in the Navy Yard to deliver some great news to low-income Philadelphia families. CSFP selected 2,000 new four-year scholarship winners from its random lottery. This means that 2,000 more K-8th grade low-income children will gain financial access to quality tuition-based schools this fall. As attendees of CSFP’s Lottery Day celebration learned, the hope and joy that this news brings to families desperate for educational alternatives for their children is infectious.

CSFP guest Katie McGinty, Chief of staff to Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf, said that making calls to Philadelphia families to inform them of their new scholarships highlighted the need for quality education in the city: “As a student who succeeded because of the scholarship opportunities that I was given early in my life, I understand the vital importance of the CSFP program.” Current CSFP parent Rashida Johnson acknowledged that her son’s scholarship made possible an elementary school education that she describes as “in one word–awesome.” Together, Lottery Day guests called hundreds of families to give them notice of their new scholarships, forever impacting the course of their child(ren)’s education and future.

CSFP would like to thank Franklin Square Capital Partners for their generosity in hosting Lottery Day at their great new facility. We also thank our Board members, donors, CSFP’s Young Friends and Parent Networks, and all those who volunteered their time to make these life-changing calls to families. Here’s to another year of providing 2,000 new scholarships under CSFP’s successful Campaign for 10,000 Children!
