CSFP Hosts 12th Annual Lottery Day Celebration: A Record Number of Donors, Friends and Parents Celebrate 2,000 New Scholarship Recipients

Mar 21, 2014

A record number of CSFP friends, supporters, and parents of current scholarship recipients gathered to celebrate CSFP’s 2,000 new scholarship winners on Thursday, March 13th. CSFP selected these scholarship recipients through a random lottery, and their awards will begin this fall. At CSFP’s Lottery Day Celebration, generously hosted by Grant Thornton, LLP, guests made phone calls to winners, informing them that their children will be given four-year scholarships to attend quality, tuition-based schools. The crowd felt the joy, excitement and gratitude of these families, as they spread this wonderful news. NBC10 shared information on CSFP’s lottery and highlighted one of the winners on its local news broadcast here.

Kristin, mother of two current CSFP scholarship recipients, shared her children’s story with event attendees. After a year of bullying and high teacher turnover at her son’s public school, Kristin decided to apply for a CSFP scholarship to enable her to move her child to a tuition-based school. Kristin’s family won the CSFP lottery three years ago, and now both of her children are receiving quality educational foundations at their tuition-based school. She shared that CSFP support has made her children’s success possible and ultimately changed the direction of their educational futures.

Lottery Day 2014 marked the third successful year of scholarship distribution under CSFP’s Campaign for 10,000 Children. With these new 2,000 four-year scholarships, CSFP has achieved more than half its Campaign goal of providing 10,000 Philadelphia children with financial access to tuition-based area schools by 2016. These scholarships are sure to have a profound impact on the recipients’ lives, families, and communities.
