Citywide Application Launch: Six Different Locations, One Simple Mission

Sep 27, 2018

CSFP officially opened applications to our random scholarship lottery for the 2019-2020 school year on September 22, 2018. The CSFP team and Parent Ambassadors (PAs) traveled to six different recreation centers across the city to meet with Philadelphia families and help them apply to the lottery for 2,000 new scholarships. Hundreds of families joined us in their communities to learn about our scholarship process and ask questions about accessing quality education in Philadelphia.

At the Olney Recreation Center, PAs and staff welcomed more than 150 families to celebrate the application launch. Parents met with CSFP ED Heather Weiss Frattone as children played on the Center’s playground, enjoyed frozen treats provided by MomPops, and participated in educational activities with children’s multimedia company, ADC Kid. Of the joyful event, Heather said “[i]t is an honor to meet prospective CSFP recipients and their families. We want to share information about how families can access quality education with as many Philadelphia families as possible, and bringing this event into different communities throughout the City is one step in that process.”

CSFP also released scholarship applications online on the 22nd. In total, CSFP received over 1,200 applications on opening day.

Thank you to our event hosts: the Olney, Holmesburg, Kendrick, Kingsessing, Cobbs Creek, and Murphy  Recreation Centers, as well as our event partners: MomPops and ADC Kid, for helping to make the Citywide Application Launch a success!

Families interested in K-8th grade scholarships should read CSFP’s eligibility requirements, and apply early: the priority deadline is November 15!
