2018 ANNUAL REPORT

Access for #EveryPhillyKid

CSFP Mission

Children’s Scholarship Fund Philadelphia (CSFP) is a privately-funded program whose mission is to provide children from low-income Philadelphia families with financial access to quality, safe, K-8th grade, tuition-based schools, thereby increasing their long-term economic and social success. CSFP grants need-based scholarships to children from low-income Philadelphia families, all of which are awarded by random lottery.

Dear Friends,

2018 was a year of growth and opportunity for Children’s Scholarship Fund Philadelphia (CSFP). We supported more than 5,000 children with partial scholarships, expanded our outreach into the community through our Parent Ambassador program, and worked to increase access to quality schools through both our Citywide Application Launch event and annual Philly K-8 School Fair.

Through it all, we kept one word in mind this year: access. We want #EveryPhillyKid to have access to quality education, and we’re grateful that you have joined us in this work. Read on to find out what we did to expand access for Philadelphia children in 2018!

Sincerely,

Heather Weiss Frattone

CSFP is the only scholarship organization in the region that is unaffiliated with any specific religion, school, or political identity. We support families as they search for the right school for their children. Families can use their CSFP scholarships at any of our more than 170 partner schools that provide quality K-8th grade education in a diverse range of settings.

PHILLY K-8 SCHOOL FAIR, SPONSORED BY NRG ENERGY, BRINGS TOGETHER 100 PUBLIC, PRIVATE, AND CHARTER SCHOOLS

– Leigh Kelly, Director of Admissions, Holmesburg Christian Academy

CITYWIDE APPLICATION LAUNCH HELD AT 6 COMMUNITY CENTERS IN EFFORT TO REACH #EVERYPHILLYKID

“This scholarship is not just money to me. It’s freedom for myself and my children. Freedom to be able to choose a school that best falls in line with what I want for them. Freedom to not be limited to only one school. This scholarship is a lifeline.”

STUDENT PERSPECTIVES

CSFP students and alumni share what access for #EveryPhillyKid means to them

“My school is a great place to learn and they are kind and loving to me. My school has taught me to be myself. I made a lot of friends and they accept me how I am.”

Leani
3rd grader at Visitation B.V.M. School

“I feel like my experiences (in elementary and middle school) helped me develop confidence and trust. My private schools taught me to put everything I have into everything I’m doing with confidence and maturity.”

Sahir
Freshman at Temple University and CSFP alumnus

"Because of my family's CSFP scholarship, I had the opportunity to build a foundation for myself through education. I continued to build upon that foundation, and now I have a house that I can take with me wherever I go."

"The relief and excitement I felt when my family received our CSFP award letter, all those years ago, has only been matched by my daughter’s college acceptance letters.”
