“I would like to take a moment to let you know how much the scholarship meant to us…it has given our children a chance to better themselves. We hope that some day we will be able to do the same for people who are in need and give hope to other families.”

CSFP Facts

  • Children’s Scholarship Fund Philadelphia (CSFP) was started in 1998.
  • CSFP has more than $12 million committed for scholarships until the end of school year 2013.
  • CSFP supports 2,300 students from families with an average income of $28,800.
  • Scholarships average $1,125; average family contribution is $1,100.
  • There are 205 participating private, independent, parochial and other community-based schools.

CSFP Goals

  • Utilize strong local board of dedicated and prominent individuals to help CSFP pursue long term educational opportunity for low-income families in Philadelphia.
  • Add a minimum of 1000 new scholarships each year.
  • Continue to provide program assessment by tracking student outcomes.
  • Serve as a resource for our current scholarship recipients and families

CSFP Scholarships Work

  • Scholarships are an effective way to provide educational opportunities to children from low-income families and make a positive difference in their lives.
  • Scholarships are wanted. Among 40 major cities, Philadelphia had the second highest per capita demand for our scholarships in the nation. Over 75,000 applications were received for 4,500 scholarships.
  • Scholarship programs are leveraged. Donors to CSFP can double and even quadruple their money because the money is matched. Participating families contribute substantially to retain their children’s scholarships.
  • Our scholarship program is efficient. One hundred percent of all money donated goes directly to scholarships.
  • Scholarship programs change lives. When parents choose their child’s school and sacrifice to pay part of the cost, education becomes a priority for that family.
