CSFP Reads: A Family Book Club

Aug 23, 2016

One of the great things that we hear from our parents is that the financial assistance they receive from CSFP enables them to spend more quality time with their children, and less time at working numerous jobs. We know that time together as a family is important, so we have created some supplemental programming, like trips to local cultural institutions, to enhance this time for CSFP families. Now, CSFP is starting a book club!

CSFP Reads has two goals: we hope to not only increase reading skills for children in our program, but to bring together the most important people in our program: the families. Through quarterly “reading assignments,” CSFP will encourage parents and children to read together and discuss common themes. Then, at quarterly get-togethers, families will have the opportunity to take part in larger discussions and connect with other CSFP families, staff and friends. All CSFP families, with children in grades 3-5th, are welcome to participate in this new pilot program. CSFP will post assignments and reading guidelines/discussion questions on our social media outlets, website, and newsletter, and quarterly meetings will be held at various locations across the city. There will be incentives for family participation.
