CSFP at the DNC

Jul 27, 2016

CSFP is proud of our alumni. They go on to graduate high school at a 96% rate, attend college, and contribute to their communities. One such example is Raushaun Williams, who addressed a crowd of Pennsylvania lawmakers during a Democratic National Convention event hosted by CSFP partner, the American Federation for Children.

Raushaun attended Our Lady of Lourdes while on CSFP’s scholarship, and he credits that time as life-changing. For more on his personal journey, read “From Timeouts to Full Scholarship” or “Ceremony Honors Local Students…” At the event last night, Raushaun noted that his current success as a second-year Drexel University Biology student with an eye on medical school is due, in part, to the solid foundation he was able to build in middle school while on the CSFP scholarship.
WNBA Hall of Famer and 4-time Olympic Gold Medal Winner Lisa Leslie; Former NBA star and current ESPN Analyst Jalen Rose; and author, attorney, and politician Kevin Chavous also addressed the crowd, stressing the importance of choice for low-income children. The night highlighted the need for quality options across the country, and the cooperation needed to make great schools accessible to all children.
CSFP would like to thank all the speakers from last night, as well as the American Federation for Children for hosting this event, and for their work in pushing the needle forward for more children.
